As part of our ongoing effort to provide relief to families amidst the current Covid-19 pandemic, we have focused our efforts towards making academics and school studies accessible to students. We observed that students from Class 8-12 in Kranti Nagar had been missing out on crucial months of their academic schedule ever since schools were asked to close down. The lack of laptops, smartphones, fast internet and a diversion free environment at home made it extremely difficult for these students to keep up with academics. To ensure that students continue their studies and don’t drop out of school or college, we set up our very first Community Study Centre. This centre has been equipped with laptop and internet facilities and is accessible to students as per prior booked slots. Batches of 10 students are admitted at a time and all safety norms such as mask, hand sanitisation, temperature are being followed. A supervisor has been assigned to the study centre to ensure that children maintain discipline, follow rules, assist in technical issues etc.
To make this initiative a success we invited people to donate pre-owned or used laptops, smartphones, tablets or donate funds which helped us rent community spaces, tables, chairs, internet connection, buy books and all that goes into building a conducive study environment. After this successful launch of the Community Centre, we plan to replicate this model towards setting up several other Community Development Centres going forward.
